Current Times- COVID 19 and Real Estate


I hope this finds you and your family well during this strange and unsettling time. I am sending you wishes for good health, silver linings to sheltering in place, and new ways to maintain productivity in your lives. So many of my clients are in the medical profession and are on the front lines putting their own health at risk as they take care of others. I can’t imagine the strength one needs to pull up within themselves to go forward into their day with this concern in the forefront. Thank you! Thank you for all you do for our community giving hope and comfort to each of us.   You are our hero’s!

 As usual, Marin has responded to the virus with generosity of resources and spirit toward neighbors and friends creating another layer of appreciation for the place we call home.  We will get through this!  And hopefully find some new priorities and methods of managing our businesses and homes along the way. We may not want to shake hands ever again, but I can’t wait to be in the company of my friends! I miss everyone and hug you all from at least six feet away!

The real estate industry is busy adjusting to new practices and ways to support our clients. We are retooling our procedures to work remotely during the shelter in place. Now more than ever, our well established networking groups are keeping us connected and informed, sharing with each other what virtual options are most effective as we navigate this new selling environment. 

As all of us are doing our part to flatten the curve by sheltering in place, this can’t help but put the focus on the place we shelter. For many of us, the first thought is gratitude. Complete gratitude that we have a place to shelter surrounded by our comforts and hopefully the people we love most in the world. And maybe after a few weeks, the ideas begin on how to make it better in small ways, like weeding through our closets and cupboards of excess and tending to our garden transitioning from winter to the planting of our victory gardens. And in some cases it’s a bigger idea. Does “We need one more room!!” sounds familiar? If so, maybe an addition is in your future, or a detached structure for home office, arts & crafts, or “mommy needs a time-out!”

It might just be the perfect time to enjoy Pinterest and Houzz and other home sites to come up with a fresh look for your interior. Rearrange the furniture, play with it and you might come up with a new nook for a study desk or craft station. Get ready with paint colors in mind, or a few new furniture pieces to change up or complete a look. A few changes can rock your world with new energy and an optimistic atmosphere.

Maybe it’s bigger idea, maybe you’ve had a huge epiphany that it’s time for a move. Take this time to make your wish list and figure out what features you need or want in your new home. Maybe it’s not bigger, just different. Maybe you don’t need as big a lot, but you crave a view… If your mind is on real estate, there are things you can do now to prep your home for market readiness so we can hit the ground running when the shelter in place is lifted. I have been consulting with sellers of upcoming listings on paint color selection, landscape choices, staging ideas and more by sending photo’s and ideas to each other via text and email. It’s been fun to work together in this way.

It’s also a good time for buyers to be prepared for entering the purchase market with confidence by updating loan pre-approvals, consulting with financial advisors and refresh your plan over the next months and years to feel complete and solid with your own goals.

Remember that anything is possible once you know what you want to accomplish.  Defining your current resources, what you need to change to reach your goals, and making a step by step action plan will get you to the finish line. Schedule an hour a week to work on your life goals in all categories and make an action plan for every change you want to see in your life, and be prepared to have fun envisioning all of it enfolding, and then get ready to watch it happen.
